History of the American Elm
American Elms are trees that provide green canopies of shade with their high reaching braches.
About 30 years ago there was an incredible amount of these trees.
In 1930 Dutch Elm Disease entered the United States with a shipment of logs imported from Europe.
This disease spread quickly due to the large amount of trees growing close together.
In 1961 Dutch Elm Disease came to Minnesota by means of beetles and a deadly fungus Ophiostoma ulmi.
Dutch Elm Disease is still a serious problem today with the remaining Elm trees.
