History of Wheat
Wheat is an ancient grain that was brought to Minnesota by white settlers.
In 1823 the first flour mill was built on the St. Anthony Falls by soldiers from Fort Snelling.
The total state production jumped to 2,186,973 bushels by 1860.
By 1880 practically 70% of Minnesota's farmland was covered in wheat.
Because of this crop, Minnesota emerged as the world's leading flour-milling center.
